The BlackBerry’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is an international “Serial number” for your BlackBerry to properly identify it.

Your IMEI can be found using the following methods :

* At the back of your phone behind the battery

* Or by dialing *#06#* while your phone is powered on it is a 15 digit number.
NOTE: If your BlackBerry prints out more than 15 digits for your IMEI , please only supply it to our unlocking services with the first 15 numeric digits the phone provides, no dashes or space. The remaining numbers are unimportant as they are just checksum numbers.

DO NOT SUBMIT THE IMEI LISTED ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR BLACKBERRY BOX AS IT CAN BE DIFFERENT THAN THAT OF THE DEVICE IT SELF

BlackBerry Bold 9650

While RIM’s big announcement of the first day of WES 2010  was the resurrection of the Pearl series with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, the company also showed off its new CDMA version of the BlackBerry Bold. Called the BlackBerry Bold 9650, the new high-end smartphone helps RIM standardize the devices across the top of its product line.

RIM President Mike Lazaridis said, “The new BlackBerry Bold 9650 is an extraordinary smartphone that we think customers will love. Whether at work or at play, the new BlackBerry Bold 9650 offers a truly impressive communications, multimedia and connectivity experience.”

The Bold 9650 has essentially the same features as the Bold 9700, which is already on AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., Bell and Rogers in Canada, and several other smaller GSM carriers. The Bold 9650 will obviously be aimed at CDMA/EVDO carriers Sprint and Verizon Wireless in the U.S. so that North American businesses can easily standardize on the device. That’s important because some companies are starting to use the Bold as a replacement to the universally-available BlackBerry Curve.

Here’s a quick summary of the primary features of the 9650:

• 480×360 display
• CDMA/EVDO + UMTS/HSPA and quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM (for global roaming)
• 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
• 512 MB of RAM
• microSD/SDHC slot for up to 32 GB of storage (2 GB card included)
• 3.2 MP camera
• Optical trackpad
• Full HTML Web browser
• BlackBerry Media Sync (connects to iTunes)

Keep in mind that Verizon, Sprint and other CDMA carriers already have a similar product called the BlackBerry tour 9630. The Bold 9650 adds two main upgrades to the Tour: 1.) It replaces the trackball with the new trackpad, and 2.) It adds Wi-Fi, which is increasingly important for fixed-mobile convergence to save cellular charges.

1 – Go to settings menu => and then Options
2 – Select Advanced options => and then Sim card
3 – Type MEPD using your Blackberry keyboard (NOTE: You will not see any text appear on the screen while typing MEPD)
4 – Hold the ALT Key while typing in MEPE on your Blackberry keyboard (NOTE: You will not see any text appear on the screen while typing MEPD)
5 – You should be presented with a prompt “Enter Network MEP Code”. Type in the 16 digit unlock code received from blackberryunlocksim.com and press in the track wheel / jog dial to confirm
6 – Your phone is now unlocked

How To Perform Diagnostic Tests on your Blackberry Hardware

If you frequently face problems with your Blackberry such as GPS reception or a non responsive trackball, it would be a good idea to figure out the exact cause of the problem. Fortunately, all Blackberry phones running Blackberry OS 4.2 and above have a built in utility to test different parts of your Blackberry.

This guide will get you up and running with these tests and soon you’ll be able to diagnose the exact cause of the problem and take appropriate action for it.

The tests could save you a trip to the service center and It would be a good idea to perform these tests before you send your Blackberry in for technical help.

Some software issues are usually assumed to be hardware problems, so performing these tests will allow you to ascertain the cause of any issues you are facing. While most software related problems can be solved with a soft reset, hard reset or upgrading the OS. You can also test the keyboard to make sure all your keys are working and therefore give your old phone a new lease of life.
How To

To perform the tests follow the steps below:

Step 1 : Navigate to your Blackberry home screen.

Step 2 : Click on Options.

Step 3 : From the on screen menu, select Status.

Step 4 : On the status screen which open ups, type the word “test”.

Step 5 : Open the menu in the Device Self Test Application Screen that appears.

Step 6 : Choose Start from the on screen menu.

Step 7 : You will now see a list of components that you can choose to test.

The features that you can test include:

* Keyboard and Trackball
* Misc
* Handset Audio
* Headset Audio
* Bluetooth Audio
* RF Components
* GPS (If supported by your phone)

Step 8 : Select the component you want to test and click Run.

After you have performed a test, the Device Self Test Application main screen will display a report. The reports provides additional information and details for each test. The RF antenna test will even dial a number to test the signal reception. You also have a vibration test under the Misc category.

Blackberry 9800

There appears to be a new BlackBerry smartphone coming out of Research In Motion which will be called the BlackBerry 9800 and the guys over at crackberry have received a few tips on just what the new BlackBerry 9800 could be.

They do say though that they don’t have anything solid and mostly its all rumour and speculation. They gain their info via bbnews which claims the BlackBerry 9800 will be a 3G smartphone with 802.11n WiFi with a 360 x 480 display and OS 6.0.

However it apparently is still behind in the browser stakes with the browser version intimating it might not be running the upcoming webkit browser. They also say that you could look on the Blackberry 9800 as an updated version of the Blackberry 9700a also known as the BlackBerry Slider.

Then again the BlackBerry 9800 could well be the BlackBerry Storm 3; of course it’s all speculation at the moment and nothing hard and solid so what do you think could this be the Storm 3 or simply a renaming of the BlackBerry Slider.

Twitter App for BlackBerry Released

Twitter and Research In Motion have released an official application for BlackBerry users to interact with the popular microblogging and social networking site.
The two companies worked together to develop the free application, according to Kevin Thau, from Twitter’s mobile products and partnerships team.

“When you talk about messaging and mobile phones, BlackBerry immediately comes to mind and it was no surprise to us that it has become one of the most popular mobile platforms for Twitter around the world,” Thau wrote in an official blog post.

The application features real-time push of Twitter direct messages, browser integration for Web links in “tweets,” an interface whose look-and-feel can be customized, recognition of Twitter @usernames linked to the users’ profiles and a search engine.

The interface is available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Brazilian Portuguese.

Social media companies like Twitter and Facebook are busy trying to strengthen mobile versions of their sites and mobile applications, as more and more people become comfortable with posting status updates, checking friends’ profiles and publishing photos and videos from their smartphones.

BlackBerry Storm2 OS 5.0.0.607 Update

Verizon has released an update for the BlackBerry Storm2 to  OS 5.0.0.607 via Over-the-Air updates, through BlackBerry Desktop Manager and via the web

The file is 113 megabytes, it will takes 25 – 30 minutes (including device reset at the end of the process.)

Make sure you backup your data first.

• It apparently fixes the home screen icon issue.
• THE LOCK BUTTON works instantly now.
• “My BB feels like new. Everything is smooth and responsive,” commented one upgrader.
• I noticed that my apps run smoother, commenter and other updater.

Forum members suggest a battery pull will help after the update. Let us know if you find any other new great features in the update.  It seems like it is worthwhile.

To Back Up Data:

Open up the Blackberry Desktop Manager Program and click on Backup and Restore .

Select Backup and save the data on your computer.

How to Update BlackBerry Storm From Your Computer:

• Open up Blackberry Desktop Manager Program (available for download from your service provider or RIM.)
• Click on Application Loader.
• Click on Update software and follow the prompts.
• Make sure the USB cable is connected to your computer and your BlackBerry Storm2.
